Swammi-siddhabhodana

Ammaji in Europe

Swamini Pramananda (affectionately known as Ammaji) is a spiritual scholar and one of the most renowned and highly respected Sanskrit and Vedanta teachers in India. From young age Ammaji lived in a traditional gurukulam and studied Advaita Vedanta (the Non-dual teaching tradition of India) with her first teacher, Swami Dayananda Saraswati. As a result of this intense study, Ammaji eventually became a monk and spiritual teacher herself. For the past over 35 years, she has been sharing the vision of Oneness and Harmony with seekers around the world.

Ammaji participates in conferences all over the world as a called person. She was a Hindu delegate at the Hindu-Buddhist conferences and the Yoga-Sufism dialogues that took place in India, Colombia, Nepal and Japan, among others. She was one of India's delegates to the United Nations Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen. She has written more than 30 books on philosophy and runs 2 ashrams in India. With her foundation Purna Vidya she is also dedicated to social and ecological projects, such as children’s education, women-empowerment, preservation and protection of cultural and natural heritage.

Ammaji is one of those rare teachers who understand the intensity and challenges of the spiritual journey, and can communicate these ancient teachings in a way that is both relevant and meaningful for the modern spiritual seeker.

Before starting teaching, Ammaji worked as a microbiologist (master's) in New York for 10 years. She transfers this scientific approach to the Vedanta teaching and thus makes it easier for our western way of thinking to find access to Vedanta.

Due to pandemic situation since March 2020 her teachings mainly switched to online mode – which has brought up new opportunities and formats. To be Ammaji's disciple is an honor and a great opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the essence of your Self – and your yoga practice! Ammaji's classes are delivered in clear English.

The oldest, still-living spiritual tradition is the ancient Indian teaching of self-knowledge – the Vedanta. Also, people outside of India have always been fascinated by the approaches of these important philosophical writings. In Europe in particular, there is and has always been a great deal of interest in this – especially in times when many people are moved by the above questions. At the same time, there are many misunderstandings, especially with the terms “karma” and “dharma” that are used quite often these days.

Ammaji will therefore expand her offer, both online and offline, for interested people in Europe in order to bring clarity to these fundamentals of the yoga philosophy. In March 2022 as a start of series, there will be a live session with the opportunity to come together and get a feeling for the sacred Vedantic teachings – online and free of charge. We can discover what these ancient scriptures have to offer us in our search for answers to the urging questions of human existence. And also with what a wonderful liveliness and clarity Ammaji can make this wisdom accessible to us.

Bhagavad Gita study-groups

The Bhagavad Gita

The Bhagavad Gita is considered by eastern and western scholars alike to be among the greatest spiritual books the world has ever known. In a very clear and wonderful way Lord Krishna describes the science of self-realization and the exact process by which a human being can establish their eternal relationship with God. It is appproachable from the realms of all religions and is glorified as the epitome of all spiritual teachings.

This is because proficiency in the Bhagavad Gita reveals the eternal principles which are fundamental and essential for spiritual life from all perspectives and allows one to perfectly understand the esoteric truths hidden within all religious scriptures and the foundation of yoga. Many great thinkers from our times such as Albert Einstein, Arthur Schopenhauer, Mahatma Gandhi and Albert Schweizer have all contemplated and deliberarted upon its timeless message. The primary purpose of the Bhagavad Gita is to illuminate for all of humanity the realization of the true nature of Divinity!

Bhagavad Gita

A very special and benefitting additional gift are the Gita-Satsangs with Ammaji – the monthly Q&A-sessions where all students are invited to connect in an online-space, where any question arising while studying the Gita will be answered.

As a pundit of Vedantic teachings naturally Ammaji places a special focus on the Bhagavad Gita – and just as Arjuna receives encouragement and guidance from Lord Krishna on the battlefield, we can be encouraged and guided by Ammaji's profound explanations. Several groups all over the world have come together for studying the Bhagavad Gita independently on a weekly basis, along with the profound material, compiled by Ammaji.

Please contact the European Gita-Group-Coordinators to get in touch with one specific group or to find out more about this way of studying in general: we will be happy to answer your questions and to share our experiences (english/ german) [email protected]
